Getting started
From first login to a working plan: portfolio, accounts, buckets, income, and your first assignment.
1. Create your user account
Open app.pebblehoard.com and register or sign in.
2. Create a portfolio
After login you land on the home screen. Create a portfolio with a clear name (for example “Household” or “Personal”). You become the Owner. You can invite others later with View, Edit, or other permissions.
Tip: One portfolio is one shared money picture. Many people keep household finances in a single portfolio rather than splitting every account into separate workspaces.
3. Add accounts
Open the portfolio and go to Accounts. Add each real-world account you want to track: checking, savings, cash, brokerage, retirement, or other.
- Set a starting balance and starting balance date that match a known statement or known cash position.
- The register will show transactions after that date and a running balance column computed from the opening figure.
Details: Accounts & register.
4. Build buckets & items
Go to Buckets. Create buckets as folders for purpose (for example “Monthly bills”, “Goals”, “Safety”). Inside each bucket, add items:
- Operating — recurring spending categories
- Sinking fund — save gradually for known future costs
- Goal — target amount/date
- Loan — debt tracking fields
- Emergency — dedicated emergency reserves (optional depending on settings)
Set priority (lower funds first), minimum balance, ideal assign amount, and optionally max balance. Details: Buckets & items.
5. Add income & funding rules
On Income, add each income source with expected amount and frequency. Create funding rules that say how much of that income should go to which items. The allotment view compares planned rules against expected income.
Details: Income & allotment.
6. Assign and track
- Record a payday (deposit into an account).
- Allocate Ready to Assign into items: pick items and amounts manually, or use priority-based preview suggestions.
- Log spending on the register with splits to the right items.
- Watch the dashboard for Ready to Assign, emergency fund progress, and net worth.
Next: Configure your emergency fund and learn the holdings matrix if money for one purpose spans multiple accounts.
