Income & allotment
Model paychecks, plan funding rules, compare allotment to expected income, and record payday allocations.
Income sources
An income source is a recurring or one-time inflow you expect—salary, bonus, side income, or other. Capture expected amount, frequency (weekly, biweekly, semi-monthly, monthly, quarterly, annual, one-time, other), optional default deposit account, and next expected date.
Funding rules
A funding rule connects an income source to a bucket item: “From paycheck, put $200 into Car repair.” Rules have amount, frequency, optional next date, active flag, and notes.
Important: Allotment reflects planned active rules, not historical paydays that already happened. It is a forward-looking plan view.
Allotment vs expected
On the income screens, PebbleHoard can show how much of an income source is already allotted by summing active funding rules and comparing that total to the expected amount. If rules exceed expected income, you are over-planning the paycheck and should reduce rules or increase expected income.
Record payday
When money actually arrives:
- Record the deposit on the appropriate account (often via Record payday).
- Allocate into items from Ready to Assign — either pick specific items and amounts, or preview by priority.
Portfolio settings control allocation flow:
- Deposit then allocate — classic two-step workflow.
- Preview wizard — suggestions based on priority, min shortfalls, ideal assign amounts, and funding rules before you commit.
Manual allocate from Ready to Assign
You do not have to follow priority order. From the dashboard or allocation flows, open Allocate from Ready to Assign and enter amounts on the items you choose. This is ideal when a paycheck is already planned in your head, or when you want to fund one goal without running the full priority engine.
Suggestions engine (conceptually)
When previewing allocation, the system can propose amounts using:
- Item priority order
- How far each item is below its minimum
- Ideal assign amount
- Matching funding rule amounts when present
- Max balance caps
You can adjust suggestions before applying them.
